Outer Banks Rental Property Landlord, have you considered setting up the “Revert to Owner” agreement for your home with Dominion Energy?
The Revert to Owner Agreement is an automatic transfer of the electric service at your Outer Banks rental property that is offered by Dominion Energy. If you are an Outer Banks Rental Property Owner, you can request the electric service to your property to be transferred to your name and continue without interruption when a Tenant is moving out and another Tenant is not going in right away. This eliminates the reconnection fee and keeps your home with constant electric service so that your refrigerator will not mold and so that your pipes will not freeze and burst in winter months. OBX Housing will normally go in and adjust the thermostat accordingly for the time of year it is as it is always better to show a house with the power on so that the prospect can turn on lights, etc. The only time that the automatic transfer would not kick in would be if the power at the property was being shut off for non-payment.
Things to note:
- There will be a $31.65 Service Initiation Charge each time electric service is transferred into the Owner name. This is still cheaper than the reconnection fee.
- Dominion Energy will send the Owner an Authorization Number to use when transacting business on the accounts covered by the Agreement.
- Owner will need to provide the Authorization or Agreement number to OBX Housing so that we can access your account and view activity to be sure new tenant as transfer electric once new lease term starts.
- If you sell the property you MUST contact Dominion Energy either online or by phone to cancel the Revert to Owner Agreement.
