Here is a Spring Cleaning run down for all Outer Banks Long Term Rental Owners and Tenants
In just a few weeks it will be officially spring so it’s time to start thinking about what you need to do as an Owner and a Renter to get your OBX rental home ready for the summer! Here’ are some suggestions:
Owners:
Pressure wash the outside of your rental home including the decks, steps, and possibly driveway.
Tree and limb trimming to ensure that nothing is scratching your roof or siding which could cause premature aging and added expense.
Inspect decks, steps, and handrails for nail pops. Also, check for cracked or loose boards that may need to be replaced.
Check roof for missing or blown up shingles. Consider having tar or sealant put on roof vents and pipes to prevent leaking from cracking due to sun exposure.
Consider a Spring check of your HVAC system to make sure it is in good shape for the upcoming OBX heat.
Tenants:
Consider putting items out for large item trash pickup. Each municipality offers Large Item Trash pickup through the sanitation department. We recommend you check your trash pickup schedule online and also to see when this special pick up is scheduled.
Cut back any plants or shrubs outside that are brown from the winter to help with new growth.
Pull weeds from rock and mulch beds before they start growing again, spray with weed killer to prevent future growth-WEED PULLING IS NOT FUN!
Consider purchasing and using items available at local big box stores such as Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot that can be sprayed around the outside of your home to stop pest from coming in this summer. Of course, follow the instructions but we have found this to be helpful in keeping ants and other pests out during the heat.
Look at your outside dryer vent and be sure it is not clogged or stuck open which would permit birds and other pests to get inside your home.
