Spring projects for Landlords and Outer Banks Residents!
Landlord/Owner:
Pressure wash the outside of your rental home including the decks, steps, and possibly driveway. Inspect all Trees and trim back limbs to make sure they are not scratching the roof or siding which could cause wear and premature aging which means added expense. Inspect decks, steps, and handrails for nail pops. Also, check for cracked or loose boards that may need to be replaced.
Inspect and check your roof for missing or blown up shingles. Consider having pipe collars and vents either sealed with tar or replaced to prevent leaking from cracking due to sun exposure. Have your Heating and Air Conditioning system checked out with a Spring Checkup. This service makes sure your Freon levels are good and that nothing is leaking or malfunctioning before the hot summer OBX heat arrives!
Outer Banks Residents /Tenant:
Place items out for large item trash pickup. Each municipality offers Large Item Trash pickup through the sanitation department by Town of County. We recommend you check your trash pickup schedule online and also to see when this special pick up is scheduled. If you have questions you can also call our office.
Outside plants and shrubs outside need cut back or trimmed that are brown from the winter to help establish new growth for spring. Pull weeds from rock and mulch beds before they start growing again and spray with weed killer to prevent future growth-WEED PULLING IS NOT FUN!
Pest Control:
Consider purchasing and using items available at local big box stores such as Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot that can be sprayed on the outside of your home to stop pest from coming in this summer. Of course, follow the instructions but we have found this to be helpful in keeping ants and other pests out during the OBX summer heat.
Look at your outside dryer vent and be sure it is not clogged or stuck open which would permit birds and other pests to get inside your home.
